Future of the Digital Fairy Saga

Journal Entry: Thu Jun 9, 2011, 3:03 PM

Since I've gotten many questions about the DF Saga I thought I'd share with you what my vision for the Digital Fairies looks like.

I know some of you have already created your own Digital Fairies or thought about doing so. For you who have already created yours - that's fine, as long as you don't write about their origin/current situation yet. I've undergone some major changes in the DF universe the past couple of months and these changes includes the situation of the current DF's, what the powers of them are and most of all what the reason for their existance is.

Let me go through my history with the Digital Fairy project.

------

Sept. 2007

This was the very first idea for a Digital Fairy which was just a cool idea from a visual stand point. My love for fairies has always been strong and so has my love for everything digital and technological. I've always loved headphones or any kind of earpieces so it was a natural decision to give her some. The shape of them almost resembled fairy-ears.
The outfit for these early Digital Fairies was very advanced and they were almost a bit too much. Too much stuff that didnt make any sense. Kinda like some outfits of science fiction animes with young girls that saves the world.

The phrase "Digital Fairy" was just something that I thought sounded cool and fit the picture in question. It didnt have any sort of meaning beyond that (except for the shape of the earpieces). But I chose to stick with it.
It made them a bit mysterious.

Jan. 2008

At this point the Digital Fairy brand was just one of my small series of pictures with the same kind of theme.
As I was very much into anime at the time I made the first DF pictures I wanted the DF's to resemble some kind of anime as you can clearly see on this beach-themed picture with another random DF. At this time the Digital Fairies was just humans but with enhanced powers and abilities.

Jan. 2009

This one was, to begin with, not supposed to be a Digital Fairy but as I was drawing I added a simple designed earpiece to her and this was the only feature that resembled her with a Digital Fairy. So I decided to call her a Light Digital Fairy. She had no name.

Jul. 2009

My fascination for cool vistas with planets and space ships in the distance made me start this giant project which would become my biggest picture to date.
I looked at the old picture of the Light Digital Fairy and decided to revisit an old character for once instead of drawing a new random one. As I worked on this painting I thought up a story for it and I gave the red headed girl a name; Yunie. The story behind it was that the ship that could be seen crashed into the distance was the very ship the Digital Fairies arrived on the planet with. Due to the lack of recourses to return "home" they were forced to rebuild on the new planet.

This was all i had and was mostly just a fun thing I came up with when I were drawing, to make the painting have a deeper meaning.
It would become deeper than that.

Aug. 2009 --> End of 2010

As time went on Yunie became one of my first real original characters. She was your typical anime-personality which was; Happy, positive, a little bit naive and independent - Nothing special. She was almost like my mascot, pretty much.

Oct. 2010

A discussion with *Blazbaros made me realize what I had on my hands with the Digital Fairy brand. It could be bigger than I had previously thought. We talked about it being something in the fassion of *Karbos Felarya universe. Which means that he created a world with a rich lore and environments where others were free to create their own characters to inhabit this world with.

I came up with some basic lore about the Digital Fairy universe where the Digital Fairies were enhanced supersoldiers with crazy weaponry and all that science fiction stuff. Pretty basic and bland. With the idea of having the DF brand as a role playing-type deal came the need to balance aspects of the universe. I made ranks within the DF types such as "Light DF", "Heavy DF" and "Rare DF".

Somehow it didnt feel right to categorize my Digital Fairies.. They lost their mystery.

Feb. 2011

Having only one real Digital Fairy character in store I created a new one by the name of Emily. She inhabited one of the many moons of the planet which I had now named "Terrenus Domus", which in latin means "Temporary Home". Now I started slowly building the solar system of the Digital Fairies. The moon Emily lived on was called "Unda Luna", which in latin means "Blue Moon", and was a very exotic moon with jungles and deserts covering the surface.

I also changed the story of the ship mentioned in the Airriding picture. The ship the Digital Fairies arrived in was actually an expedition (Novus Orsa Expedition) in search for new resources sent from planet Earth. The Digital Fairies were created/developed/bred from human scientists to be able to whitstand the great pressures and dangers of great space travels. They were more resiliant and would be excellent engineers and miners.
Some military Digital Fairies were also bred in case of anything.. Unfriendly.

At this point I promised to release a FAQ explaining all the major aspects of the Digital Fairy universe, explaining everything what Digital Fairies was all about and what their homes looked like.

Mar. 2011

Until this point I had looked at the Digital Fairies as glorified warriors with shiny armors and cool powers, with no miseries whatsoever. But then I realized that being a DF can't be all fun and games. The Digital Fairies who didnt get an opportunity to get on the Novus Orsa Expedition and were left back on Earth would be hated and dispiced by the humans because.. They were different.

Apr. --> May. 2011

Everyday for weeks I would think of scenarios from the Digital Fairy universe like following a band of soldiers. But most of all I thought of one character in particular and her past; Yunie. Her past was at this point more interesting than her future, which was bad. I really wanted to tell a compelling story with deep and interesting character interaction and moving moments. I wanted the Digital Fairies to be interesting, cool and vulnerable but most important of all - I wanted them to be mysterious.

I rewrote and remade almost everything I had previously written about the DF universe.

---------

And this is where I made the decision NOT to create a role-playing game for others.
But a story that I want to tell, for YOU to experience.
I've scrapped the idea of a FAQ because of this.

However, I'm really honored with the ammount of support and interest I've gotten about the Digital Fairies. It really makes me smile and keep making the story great!

In conclusion; The DF SAGA will be a mysterious and compelling story - A story that I will tell, in one way or another.

Wow, it's awesome to see everything developed until now about Digital Fairy Universe in one place! I'm joining others in saying that I'm glad you're not making this world open to others.
For one, I understand how it is when a story you've put much thought into gets out of control and I wouldn't want that happen to ours (I've had that happen with some roleplays I had created and despite knowing that you create them for other people to play in, they got so out of hand that I didn't recognize my initial idea at all, leaving me feeling a tad unnerved.)
And two, like you said having the mystery of your characters disappear before even getting to tell their story is very un-fulfilling, so I'll be waiting eagerly for the DF saga to develop! And like ~Tablis said, it's thrilling to be present here now and actually witnessing a great world being created bit by bit. <3
And when we know enough about DF's and the world they inhibit from your storytelling, I can't wait to adjust my Aiden to all the knowledge and being able to play with Kowai's, Lee's, Martina's and others' fan-DFs x3 <3

Haha well, I have a late reply so there's probably not much I can say that someone else hasnt already said ^^;
This whole DF is veerrry interesting, and I cant wait until you get the story all worked out! It has been quite fun watching you draw all these cool pictures of the DF universe on Livestream! And, I do believe it was a smart move not making it an RPG ( I agree with what Kowai said) As fun as it would be, it would almost be like your ideas arent your own anymore, and it would be alot harder to keep your hand in control of what all happens. Like I have my OCs, i know more about their characters and personality than about their world right now, but I dont think I would want it open to others, because I have one main story I want to follow, and maybe I'll be able to do something with it one day!

OTZ and i read this just as soon as I suddenly got an idea for a DF hahahahaha xD All the chat on LS about DF fan-Ocs got me interested~ I may still draw one pic of her if thats ok with you ^^;

But anyways, keep up the great work! and good luck! You are quite the inspiration! :]

Yeah exactly, it's not like there is a shortage of RPG's out there anyway xD
The Digital Fairies are my babies, and I'd never give them away to strangers :')

Good luck with your OC's! They seem to be very interesting characters ^^

Oh, you're free to design your own DF! Just as long as you don't go too much into their backstory or current occupations :dummy:
I can put up the earpieces-references on photobucket if you want : )

Thank you for the support, it means alot! :aww:
